EQA AND THE MINISTRY OF ECOLOGICAL TRANSITION CERTIFY OUR PROGRESS TOWARDS EMISSION NEUTRALITY BY 2030

Two important recognitions have endorsed our progress towards achieving neutrality in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. On the one hand, the accredited entity EQA has certified the 11% reduction in the carbon footprint achieved since the start of the Araven Group Sustainability Plan in 2021. We have also registered these results with the Climate Change Office of the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

For all of us who make up Araven Group, it is a pleasure to see the results of our efforts to contribute to combating climate change, reducing Scope 1 emissions (those caused directly by our activity) and Scope 2 (those caused in the production of the energy purchased).

To achieve this reduction, we have implemented measures such as reducing diesel consumption, replacing the fleet of vehicles, controlling refrigerant leaks in air conditioning equipment, changing our electricity supply to Guarantee of Origin from 100% renewable sources at our headquarters, etc.

The 11% reduction is the improvement achieved between the two Scopes 1 and 2 in relation to sales (emissions generated per million euros of turnover). Also noteworthy is the fact that total gross emissions decreased by 7% (tonnes of CO2 equivalent) by 2023. Our commitment is to continue to reach zero emissions in six years, the horizon of the 2030 Agenda.

NEXT STEP, MEASURING SCOPE 3

To monitor our reduction, we started calculating our corporate carbon footprint in 2021, as a baseline year. Annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are subject to an external and independent verification process through the accredited entity EQA, which includes all activities in our two production lines, Retail and Horeca.

The verification certificates have enabled us to voluntarily register our results in the Carbon Footprint Register at the Spanish Climate Change Office. In addition to receiving the seals awarded by the Spanish Government, the register allows us to participate in emission reduction actions and offset or absorption projects.

At the same time, we are working on a more ambitious challenge: measuring the impacts of our activity in Scope 3, which considers the entire value chain, from suppliers to the end of the useful life cycle of their products. We are already implementing initiatives to promote green or responsible purchasing policies, use raw materials and materials with lower environmental impact, and work with suppliers with sustainable and local performance. Other new initiatives are being implemented.

Our plan to avoid polluting gases reinforces the concern for sustainability as a hallmark of Araven Group. We are a pioneer in the use of recycled or recovered plastic and most of the products of the Araven and Shop&Roll brands are 100% recyclable.

By working to achieve emissions neutrality, we continue to seek to meet the objectives of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to help our customers join in this effort.
